When we are being paid for attending to our clients' matters, those matters must be the sole and most intense focus of our attention at that moment. Every talent, every resource, every skill and every concern for vastly superior professional service that we have, individually and as a firm, should be applied to that client. Nothing else is acceptable. Anything less is second rate. Our clients are people. Nothing substitutes for intense personal human contact with them. Technical skills, no matter how well developed, can't satisfy client needs unless those needs are understood in the client's own terms. A successful relationship with our clients is dependent on their needs, convenience and satisfaction being met, not the other way around. We need our clients more than they need us. If we forget this, they won't. If we remember just these things, and treat our clients and ourselves with integrity and respect, every other professional goal that we have will be achieved. |
