HB&P EMPLOYEES LEND A HELPING HAND TO LOCAL HOMELESS SHELTER

On Friday afternoon, July 30, HB&P Partners sent eleven volunteers to lend a helping hand at the Carpenter’s Shelter, a local Alexandria, Virginia dedicated to ending homelessness and improving the lives of those in need.

Carpenter's Shelter
When the HB&P team arrived at the Carpenter’s Shelter they were warmly greeted by volunteer coordinator Courtney Bishop, for a brief orientation. Courtney tasked HB&P volunteers with cleaning and organizing the Shelter’s two food pantries, where food and beverage donations are stored and used by food preparation volunteers and families in Shelter’s Aftercare program.

HB&P team of accountants rolled up their sleeves and went to work; clearing the shelves, checking each item for expiration dates and restocking everything in an orderly fashion; all while interacting with a second crew of kitchen volunteers from a local church, who were preparing the evenings meal.

“There was plenty of work to go around” said Mike Rafferty, accountant at HB&P. With such a large inventory of food we kept busy until the end of the afternoon. The work was both gratifying and fun,” concluded Mike.

The kitchen and food pantries play a vital role at the Carpenter’s Shelter, providing over 800 meals annually to those in need. “It was inspiring to see the regular volunteers at the shelter prepare a meal for the evening,” commented HB&P accountant Sanyia Alkharusi. “I realized how simple acts by a few can mean so much to so many. As an HB&P employee it was a great team-building experience and a testament to firm’s big heart towards the needs of the community ; as an individual, it was just as rewarding to give back – a fun afternoon,” concluded Sanyia.
