Session 1: Influencing Without Authority and Cultivating Fruitful Relationships
Our professional lives are full of both the challenges and opportunities of working with others. Twenty-first-century knowledge work includes constant interactions and collaboration between teams and individuals; it requires interpersonal skills and communication that can keep up with the rapid pace of change in our workplaces. This 45-minute workshop is designed as a mix of information and exercises to build skills in influencing without authority and cultivating fruitful relationships in professional settings. Participants will gain techniques and tools to communicate with intention and build trust through empathy.
Presented by: Jessica Kohnen and Jennifer Meder, partners at hyve
Session 2: Why take time to plan … let’s just do something!
Strategic planning is not just getting together every few years for pie-in-the-sky discussions and dreams of what might be. As the great philosopher Yogi Barra said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.” It’s about alignment, focus, agendas, budgets, programs, staffing … it’s the WHY for all the WHATS an organization does or should be doing. We will discuss the reasons, the processes and some of the different outputs and uses of strategic discussions.
Presented by: Richard F. Dorman, Catalyst Group of Alexandria
Session 3: Do You Know Your Role as a Fiduciary in Today’s Regulatory Environment?
The world of 403(b), executive compensation and foundation portfolio management has changed. Now more than ever non-profit leaders need to understand these rules to satisfy regulators and to serve the needs of their employees and key stakeholders. In this session, you get a better understanding of these requirements and learn best practices used by leading non-profit organizations from experts in the industry.

Mike Looney, Vice President – Sales for Alexandria, and Brad Holterhaus, Director – Tax-Exempt Markets for Baltimore, from The Principal Financial Group
