Intern Tax Accountant

Location: Alexandria

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • The Intern Tax Accountant will provide analytical and mechanical assistance in the preparation of individual tax returns (IRS Form 1040).
  • The Intern Tax Accountant may also be charged with full responsibility for certain simple tax returns prepared using ProSystems Tax, the tax system used by HB&P for tax preparation.
  • The Intern Tax Accountant will have neat, well-formatted work papers documenting the work performed.
  • The Intern Tax Accountant will maintain effective written and verbal communications with all clients and colleagues.
  • The Intern Tax Accountant will perform the assigned tasks as expeditiously as possible to meet HBP’s efficiency requirements.
  • The Intern Tax Accountant will be required to complete other tasks as assigned, to ensure client’s needs and expectations are not only met, but exceeded.
  • The Intern Tax Accountant will need reliable transportation to travel to and from various client work-sites in the Washington DC Metro area, including non-metro accessible sites.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Must be a junior or senior seeking an undergraduate degree in accounting or seeking a graduate degree in Accountancy with a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Proactive and take initiative to research and resolve client issues.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal guidance and to follow instructions quickly and transfer knowledge from one engagement to another.

Staff Accountant I

Location: Alexandria, VA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Department: Tax / Audit

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • The Staff Accountant will provide analytical and mechanical assistance in the following areas: audits (including compilations and reviews), tax returns (individual, business, exempt organization, and/or trust/estate income tax returns), and other reporting (including payroll and other returns).
  • Within the audit area, the Staff Accountant may be given full responsibility for certain simple accounts such as cash and accounts payable.
  • The Staff Accountant may also be charged with full responsibility for certain simple tax returns prepared using ProSystems Tax, the tax system used by HB&P for tax preparation.
  • The Staff Accountant will download, calculate, and test clients’ trial balance and grouping of accounts for financial statements reporting purposes using CaseWare (the system used by HBP for audits, reviews and compilation services), proofing, work paper preparation, and assistance of other client services.
  • The Staff Accountant will have neat, well-formatted work papers documenting the work performed.
  • The Staff Accountant will maintain effective written and verbal communications with all clients and colleagues.
  • The Staff Accountant will perform the assigned tasks as expeditiously as possible to meet HBP’s efficiency requirements.
