Alexandria, Va. — June 7, 2018 — Halt, Buzas & Powell announced Tuesday its promotion of Marco Fernandes, Jr., CPA, to firm partner.
Fernandes previously worked as audit principal at HBP, where he was responsible for all aspects of the firm’s audit division and managed the firm’s assurance services.
“After his many years of dedicated service to our clients, growth of our associates and leadership in the audit department, we are pleased that Marco has decided to join the firm’s ownership group,” managing partner Andy Powell said.
Halt, Buzas & Powell held a reception Tuesday evening at the firm’s Alexandria location in honor of Fernandes’ promotion. Firm partners Steve Halt and Andy Powell spoke about Fernandes’ accomplishments and presented him with a gift in honor of his new title.
“Almost immediately after interviewing with Steve and Andy 11 years ago, I knew HBP was the best place for me to develop my skills and further my career. Through continuous guidance in an atmosphere that challenges and promotes growth, I’ve been given the opportunity to achieve success I never thought possible,” Fernandes said. “I am incredibly humbled and proud to have been offered the opportunity to join Steve and Andy in this partnership, and I am excited and eager to continue to foster the growth of HBP’s accountants and professionals and achieve continued success for HBP and its clients.”
Fernandes joined the HBP team in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park. In his 11 years at the firm, he has revised HBP’s audit process to become more efficient, in addition to improving the training process for new hires. Fernandes is a member of the America Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA) and the Greater Washington Society of CPAs (GWSCPA).
